Perspectives on Digital Dissertations: Practitioners, Advisors, and Editors

This roundtable seeks to offer various perspectives on digital dissertations. While born-digital dissertations or dissertations with a digital component have been part of the academic landscape in the humanities for a while now, graduate students and their advisors still often face this question: What are good practices for starting, sustaining, and assessing a digital dissertation?
The recently published volume Shaping the Digital Dissertation: Knowledge Production in the Arts and Humanities (Open Book Publishers, 2021), edited by Anke Finger and Virginia Kuhn, offers both theoretical considerations and practical experiences when it comes to undertaking a digital dissertation. Taking a cue from this edited volume, this roundtable invites current and past dissertators, advisors, and also editors of academic presses to share their experiences and perspectives on digital dissertations. Graduate students who are working on or have worked on a digital dissertation are especially invited to showcase their projects and/or talk about the process of creating them.
If you are
a graduate student who is currently working on a digital dissertation (or dissertation with a digital component) or has defended a digital dissertation (or dissertation with a digital component); you may showcase your project (works in progress are welcome!) and/or address the process of creating your project
an advisor or dissertation committee member of a student who is undertaking a digital dissertation or digital scholarship in general
an editor of an academic press (or journal) who has published or is seeking to publish digital projects or projects with a digital component
please consider submitting an abstract for a roundtable contribution (150-200 words) to Verena Kick (vk275@georgetown.edu) by March 23, 2022.
