ANK: Repetition/Variation in Literature and Music | München (28.06.2023–01.07.2023)
From June 28th to July 1st the 13th Conference of the International Association for Word and Music Studies (WMA) "Repetition/Variation in Literature and Music" will take place in Munich.
The forthcoming conference will focus on the manifold forms and functions which repetition and variation can have in both literature and music. The creation of meaningful and beautiful similarities as part of a pattern or structure is among the most important means humankind has developed in order to create, or respond to, order in various contexts and for various purposes. In the arts, similarity is among the most general aesthetic features which have informed all levels of works of art across cultures and times.
On Wednesday, June 28th 18:00, the conference will start with a Welcome Speech by Michael Halliwell (President of the WMA), an Introduction by the Conference Convener and an Opening Performance of Kurt Schwitters' "Ursonate" by Florian Kaplich.
