Nationaal Museum van Wereldculturen's Research Center for Material Culture is hosting a weeklong Zoom conference titled Caring Matters, with Webinars open to the general public. This event is part of TAKING CARE - Ethnographic and World Cultures Museums as Spaces of Care, a Creative Europe programme of the European Union. https://www.takingcareproject.eu/
Its interrogation is to think through how museums might contribute more critically to how we understand the brutal legacies of colonialism on our earth and learn to better pay attention to the wisdom that peoples the world over have nurtured, adapted, and applied in dealing with such violence. Indeed, our hope is to fashion more caring and careful museum practices. Central to these speculations is to ask how to do this without re-inscribing earlier exploitative orders and imperial rights.
Speakers include: Kyle Whyte, Heather L. Igloliorte, Rolando Vázquez Melken; Macarena Gómez-Barris; Niall Martin, Jeff Diamanti; Puawai Cairns; Rosalind C. Morris; and Wayne Modest.
