Concept –

Arts, Crafts, Materials and Language in pre-colonial Globalisation around the Western Indian Ocean, is an exploration of knowledge traditions that recognizes the complex and diverse connections between Africa, Arabia, Persia and the Indian subcontinent from the first millennia till the beginning of western domination in the second millennia CE.

The proposed publication by Ambedkar University Delhi is designed as a collection of papers that will bring together writings on new findings on the transfer of cultural knowledge in antiquity that have emerged from mobility, materials and beliefs. The papers will describe the diverse and multiple interactions that existed before the globalization of the second millennia CE. It will bring into conversation meaningful voices and ideas from the littoral of the western Indian Ocean, which describes these interactions from examples in language and creative practice.

Themes

We look forward to receiving from scholars and researchers working on the concept of the publication in the disciplines and fields of culture and creative expression, cultural studies, anthropology, sociology, geography, intercultural communication and so on. If your paper suggests an interaction across the region in other areas, we invite you to make your submission to us.

We are looking for papers that emerge from following broad themes, but are not restricted to them,

                   Material Cultures – continuing memories

                   Mobilities and Migration – maritime and overland

                   Orality, Language and Linguistics

                   Visual cultures – symbolic and pictorial

                   Musical and Performative expression

                   Beliefs, Practice, Rituals - Spirit worship traditions (bhuta)

 

Submission Details

Abstract for review – 250 words

On selection of abstract , the Paper – 3000-5000 words. Images, photographs and maps (3-5) are desirable.
