New York History Journal Call for Book Reviewers

In 2012, the New York State Historical Association partnered with SUNY Oneonta to reinvent New York History—the only journal devoted entirely to the history of New York State. Published quarterly, now in our 97th volume, we are dedicated to producing a stronger, more valuable journal than ever before. If you haven’t checked us out in a while, we encourage you do so at www.nysha.org. All articles are peer-reviewed, and the journal is edited by scholars with years of writing/editing experience.

At this time we are looking for reviewers for a number of recently published books relating to the history of New York. Reviewing books and other history-related materials is important to New York History's mission. Those who agree to serve as reviewers are recognized experts in their field, and New York History depends on them to provide a thorough analysis of the book or other historical material.

Reviews must be informed and effective. Authors should place the work within a broad context. They should explain what is historically significant about the work and why the work is worthy of a reader's attention. Reviewers should provide an analysis of the work, and not simply describe it. The interests of the broad audience of New York History – including libraries, historical societies, scholars, and individuals with a general interest in history – should be addressed. New York History's editors will carefully review and may edit any book review submission. Reviews should be 1,000-1,250 words.

Please contact the book review editor, Susan Goodier, susan.goodier@oneonta.edu if you are interested in reviewing a book. Please attach a brief (1 page) CV. We will send you a list of available books to choose from.
