I am working on the practice known as kiambin/kepini/kapini/kebin/kabin marriage in the Ottoman era and its different forms, be it between Franks and Ottoman (mostly Greek) women, between Christian subjects of the Ottoman empire or between Muslim men and non-Muslim women.
I came across a reference in a number of European travelogues that claim kebin was the same as what they termed "Emancibado or Casado de Media Carta in Spain" even though the law didn't allow it there. I have never heard of this before and I would really appreciate any tips or guidance you might be able to provide. I haven't seen such a comparison in any of the secondary sources I've read.
Thank you in advance and best wishes,
