This election is special in that we will elect BOTH a President and a President Elect, in keeping with our recent referendum. Please pay particular attention to those positions and get in touch if you have any questions or would like to be considered for one or both of these positions.
Details about each position appear below:
The President serves a two-year term beginning in January 2018. The duties of the President include policy initiation, coordination, management, and fund-raising, all in consultation with the Board.
The President Elect serves a non-renewable two-year term, beginning in January 2018. The President-Elect shall be responsible for coordinating SSA meetings and events at MESA, including overseeing the selection of SSA-sponsored panels, arranging speakers or panelists for SSA events, scheduling the board and business meetings. This year’s President Elect will assume the SSA Presidency in January 2020.
The Treasurer serves a once renewable two-year term, beginning in January 2018. The Treasurer will keep an accurate roster of the full membership, collect membership dues, and disburse funds from the treasury to cover SSA expenses. They also file documents associated with maintaining the SSA’s non-profit status (501c3).
The Member-at-Large participates in all business of the board, acts as the Elections Officer in the first year of his or her term, and communicates with the membership in the second year of his or her term in addition to taking minutes at MESA meetings. The Board maintains two members at large and they work together to promote the SSA and its activities via social media. The Member-at-Large carries a two-year term.
The Graduate Student Representative serves a two-year term, and participates in all business of the board.
All members of the SSA are welcome to nominate themselves or any other member for either of these positions. Once nominations have been received, the Elections Officer will contact nominees to determine their willingness to run. A ballot will be circulated to the membership in the fall.
All nominations must be received by October 6, 2017. Our elections will be in October and hosted by Helios (as in the past). Winners will be announced at the SSA Business Meeting at the MESA Annual Meeting in Washington DC on November 18.
