LAWCHA, Striking Teaching and Research Assistants, and Temple University
Hey folks this Thomas Castillo sharing a post circulating with LAWCHA (thanks to Kimberly Philips-Fein and Claire Goldstene):
Kim Phillips-Fein (chair of Communications Committee)
LAWCHA is an organization of scholars, teachers, students, labor educators, and activists who seek to promote public and scholarly awareness of labor and working-class history through research, writing, and organizing.
LAWCHA condemns Temple University's threat to withdraw tuition remission from striking teaching and research assistants. This is a dangerous escalation that makes it far more difficult for teaching and research assistants to exercise their legal rights to organize and collectively bargain over their working conditions. It displays a callous lack of respect for the importance of the work that graduate student employees do as teachers and researchers.
We urge Temple University not to violate what has been an established set of norms regarding collective bargaining with graduate student employees and to return to the bargaining table.
