Call for submissions, SHGAPE Blog: The Long Progressive Era and Women's History

Chelsea Gibson Discussion

Dear H-SHGAPE Subscribers

This summer, the Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era will be publishing a roundtable on the late Elizabeth Israels Perry's book After the Vote: Feminist Politics in La Guardia's New York (2019). Perry had a long and distinguished career that highlighted women's political activism in GAPE and in the "long Progressive Era" that stretched into the 1920s and 1930s, including her important book on her grandmother, Belle Moskowitz: Feminine Politics and the Exercise of Power in the Age of Alfred E. Smith (1987). Perry served as SHGAPE President from 1998-2000, and also published one of JGAPE's most popular essays, "Men are from the Gilded Age, Women are from the Progressive Era" (2002), which I know will be familiar to many of our subscribers.

To honor Perry's legacy, the SHGAPE Blog is seeking submissions for short pieces (500-1000 words) that relate to the topics of her work in some way. We are especially interested in submissions that showcase new work on women's history, the history of suffrage, or the history of women's political activism in the GAPE, or any essays that explore the long Progressive Era more generally. The Blog is open to a variety of submission types, including traditional written submissions, photo essays, or graphic essays.

If you are interested, please send a blog pitch to Chelsea Gibson cgibson2@binghamton.edu by May 31st.

Sincerely
Chelsea
