Dear colleagues,

A group of scholars focusing on the history of food, drink, and commodities in 20th century Italy are currently looking for a fourth panelist for our AHA 2021 panel proposal. The following are the topics and themes of our planned presentations:

  • Italian coffee culture (focusing on labor networks between Italy and Brazil) during the interwar years.
  • Mass marketing battles between Italian winemakers and brewers under Fascism.
  • African American women and notions of ('exotic') beauty in post-WWII Italian popular culture.

Since we're aiming to submit a proposal which goes beyond just the history of food and beverages, we're hoping to attract the interest of someone who is working on the history of Italian commodities and consumerism during the 20th century, with a preference for those whose research explores these topics and themes from a inter-/trans-national perspective.

If you're interested in joining our panel proposal, please get in touch with me ASAP via the following email address: brianjgriffith@ucsb.edu.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
Brian J Griffith
