The Art of the Islamic Worlds Department

is excited to announce the following program,
Earth, Sea, Sky, and the Colored Universe of Blue Gemstones
scheduled for January 28, 2020 at 6:00 PM Central Time
The program will be hosted by the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston at the following zoom link:
This program explores the symbolism and appeal of the color blue in premodern Islamic and Persian cultures and celebrates the magnificent Starry Night Sapphire, which is on display in Between Sea and Sky: Blue and White Ceramics from Persia and Beyond.
This program is hosted by:
• Dr. Aimée Froom, curator MFAH
in conversation with three internationally respected scholars:
• Benjamin Zucker, author historian, international gems expert, collector and dealer
• John King, former chief quality officer of the Gemological Institute of America, author and artist;
• Dr. Ali Alibhai, University of Texas at Dallas, visiting assistant professor of medieval Islamic civilization and art history, and curatorial assistant, MFAH.
