Kamal Boullata, Journeying Through Transparency
Kamal Boullata is a painter and writer. Born in Jerusalem, he studied at the Fine Arts Academy in Rome and at the Corcoran Gallery School of Art in Washington, D.C. He has been living in Berlin since his 2012 election as a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg Institute of Advance Study in Berlin.
José Miguel Puerta Vílchez is a professor in the Department of the History of Art, Universidad de Granada. He is the author of several volumes on Arabic aesthetics, poetics and architecture, including the ground-breaking Historia del pensamiento estético árabe. Al-Andalus y la estética árabe clásica (Akal, 1997), recently published in English as Aesthetics in Arabic Thought from Pre-Islamic Arabia through al-Andalus (Brill, 2017). His publications on the palace of the Alhambra include Los códigos de utopía de la Alambra de Granada (Granada, 1990), and Leer la Alambra. Guía visual del Monumento a través de sus inscripciones (Granada, 2010).
