Washington History is now accepting submissions for the fall 2022 issue. The richly illustrated, semiannual, refereed magazine publishes articles on the history of the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area for an audience of scholars, students, and the general public. Submissions are accepted at any time, but the deadline for consideration for the fall 2022 issue is March 1. To learn more, review the submission guidelines or visit the DC History Center's website.
The magazine accepts several different kinds of manuscripts, including thesis-driven analyses; descriptive articles on previously unpublished information; first-hand accounts or reminiscences of events or figures in Washington history; and picture essays based on photographs, works of art, architecture, artifacts, or illustrations. All full-length manuscripts must be accompanied by at least eight suggested illustrations to help readers connect with the research and stories presented.
Washington History also publishes brief, themed features of 1,400 words or less. Featured content categories like "Teachable Moments," "Person/Place of Interest," and "Unbuilt Washington" introduce readers to informative and engaging vignettes in local history.
