Food Culture in Central Europe (Austria, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraine) is a multidisciplinary conference that aiming to present food studies related researches from Central Europe. The boundaries marked in conference title are not geographical nor political – they are symbolic. They present spaces and food cultures not known to wider audience. We hope that this initiative will increase level of food culture awareness, create interdisciplinary discourse on the food studies in this region and help establish long term cooperation between researchers and institutions.

Food culture is changing constantly. New culinary techniques, oversea products and foreigner food ways. The political, social and cultural changes have also an impact on what we eat. In the age of mass media development or decay of food culture is even faster then in the past.

We invite papers on topics including: * Food culture in XIX, XX or XXI Century (material culture, food history, social history, anthropology, sociology of food, food economics). *Traditional food culture versus present day food culture. *Food and the Internet.

Proposal ideas that extend beyond these thematic areas will also be considered. Submissions are encouraged to use an interdisciplinary approach.

Deadline is 2nd of December 2015

Applications should include:

  • title of paper
  • contact information
  • abstract (between 1000 and 1500 characters)
  • biographical information

Authors will be notified of paper acceptance or non-acceptance by email no later than 15th of December 2015.

The conference language is English. Presentations should be no more than 20 minutes in length, followed by a discussion. Because of punishing schedule, if accepted, we expect the final version of your paper (between 21 000 and 25 000 characters including footnotes and bibliography) by 26th of February 2016.

The conference fee covers participation in all lectures, paper presentation, conference materials, proceedings, two lunches, coffee breaks, the conference dinner on 19th of May and one copy of publication. Accommodation is not included.

Regular participants: 120 euros
Undergraduates and PhD students: 100 euros
