2021 marked the 175th anniversary of the first Georgia Supreme Court session.  Observing this anniversary, the Georgia Archives invites proposals for presentations / posters for our annual symposium looking at Georgia’s Judiciary and Courts.  We welcome proposals on a variety of topics, including but not limited to milestones in Georgia jurisprudence, significant cases or decisions, idiosyncrasies within the court system, court records, or other broadly related topics.  Use of Georgia Archives records is encouraged but not required.

The Symposium will include up to five 50-minute sessions, plus a lunch session featuring student posters.  We invite proposals for (a) full 50-minute presentations, (b) individual 10-to-15-minute presentations, (c) panels of three 10-to-15-minute presentations, and (d) student posters. We seek a variety of presenters and encourage students, historians and historical researchers, and anyone with an interest in Georgia’s courts, judiciary, or jurisprudence. The Symposium may be held either in-person or online, or it may be held in a hybrid form. We will provide more information about the format of the Symposium closer to the event time.

We are pleased to announce that we are able to print posters for chosen poster proposals.
