The Department of History at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or tenured Associate Professor who specializes in the history of slavery in North America.
UNC-Chapel Hill has world-class faculty and resources, making it one of the best possible places to study the history of North American Slavery. Wilson Library is one of the most important repositories of Southern and African American History. The Center for the Study of the American South is an innovative leader and cultural hub in Southern Studies. The Institute for African American Research and the Institute for Arts and Humanities contribute to the rich intellectual environment at UNC-Chapel Hill. And Carolina Public Humanities helps carry forth our commitment to serve the public.
The Department of History seeks candidates who can bolster our existing strengths in African American History, United States History, and Southern History. The Department also seeks candidates whose commitment to scholarship, teaching, and service will support a climate of diversity and public engagement.
The teaching load for this position is 2 classes per semester. Minimum requirements include a Ph.D. in History or a related field in-hand by July 1, 2022.
