In 2022, the Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies will sponsor a panel devoted to Austrian-American Studies at the annual Austrian Studies Association conference, April 12-15, 2022, in New Orleans.

Research that explores the transatlantic exchange between the two countries in any academic discipline, including history, political science, economics, law, and cultural studies, will be considered. This includes study of any aspect of the historic relationship between the United States and Austria, as well as between the historical Habsburg Empire and the United States.  Requests for travel assistance are welcome from scholars working in diverse professional settings, including community colleges, museums, and public archives.

To support panel participants, the Botstiber Institute will offer travel assistance of up to $1000. Panel papers may also be published in the Journal of Austrian-American History, an open-access journal, published by Penn State University Press.

To apply, please send your submitted ASA conference abstract to the attention of the “Travel Committee” at the Austrian Studies Association (austrianstudiesassociation@gmail.com), along with an estimate of your travel expense. The ASA will administer travel assistance in the form of reimbursement, and grantees will be notified shortly after conference organizers have dispatched acceptance notices.
