Editors seek 1-2 essays on “trans” as part of a volume titled Becoming TransGerman: Cultural Identity Beyond Geography in the book series German Visual Culture. Essays will ideally focus on one of the following topics:
Transgender identity in historical or contemporary context
Historical or contemporary engagements with transgender studies in German Studies
Transgender identity and human rights in transnational context (with a focus on German-speaking countries/regions)
Single author or co-authored essays are welcome. Contributions need not necessarily be focused on visual forms of “trans” but ideally would include 3-5 images in support of the essay’s argument.
Full drafts of essays, between 8500 and 10,000 words, will be due by 1 February 2018. Anticipated publication of the volume is June of 2018.
