The intended volume asks about current artistic ideas about the city. The main characteristic of literature, film, theater and speculative architecture is that it is socially critical and develops a new aesthetic of writing about urban space. The artists take up topics such as gentrification, social displacement, technologization, digitization, modernization, ecological destruction but also ecological renewal of the city. The climate catastrophe is not coming, it is already happening. Man has run down his home planet, but he has also developed solutions. Stopping climate change is now less of a technological challenge than one of the political will to use environmentally friendly technologies and otherwise to do without. The future itself, however, is a matter of the imagination, which also makes it a cultural task: How could a world be organized in which all possible solutions would also be applied and humanity would have a chance of survival, and above all, how would this be World out? Contributions to these ideas and drafts are to be collected in the volume. It is about taking stock of a modern, worldwide artistic reflection on the future of the city. Texts, films, Therater performances, architectural designs, performances from different cultures and regions of the world can be used for analysis, because the future of the city can no longer be thought of nationally. The volume will appear in 2022 as part of the series Socially Critical Literature - Texts, Authors and Debates at V&R unipress / Brill.
