African Cosplays: Play, Performance , and the Universe

Call for Book Chapters

Title: African Cosplays: Play, Performance, and the Universe: Essays in Honor of Henry J. Drewal

Contributors are invited to submit unpublished chapters (8000 words maximum, Chicago Style) on African cosplay. Each chapter explores, discusses, and examines the concept of cosplay beyond current trends (Eurocentric and western) and iterations in graphic arts and comics. Contributors are invited to explore anthropological, cultural, historical, spiritual, emotional, and semiotic perspectives on African cosplay.  

• Abstracts (250-400 words) are due from: September 30 to December 31, 2021.
• First drafts of essays are due on March 31, 2022.
• Final drafts are due on June 30, 2022.
• Book proposal submitted to publisher by August 31, 2021.

• Gender and African Cosplay
• Sexuality and African Cosplay
• The Metalanguage of African Cosplay
• The Rhetoric of African Cosplay
• The Internet and African Cosplay
• Conclusions: Trends, Modernity, Challenges

*All contributors are responsible for securing the requisite permissions and resolving all copyright issues related to their essays before final submissions.

All abstracts must include
