Picture Book Exhibition opens at the Grolier Club December 6, 2017
I am pleased to announce the opening next month of our exhibition, "Radiant with Color & Art: McLoughlin Brothers and the Business of Picture Books, 1858-1920," which will run at the Grolier Club (47 E. 60th St., New York) from December 6, 2017 through February 3, 2018. This eye-popping exhibition, based on 200 items (most of them held at the American Antiquarian Society) will explore the impact made by this titan publisher in children's print culture and the history of the book.
In conjunction with the exhibition, we are issuing a full-color catalog that will provide permanent documentation on the history of this long under-studied publisher.
I will be giving a public tour of the exhibition on Friday, January 5 at noon; in addition, I will be giving a special tour for Modern Language Association conference attendees on the same day at 2 p.m. (prior registration for this latter tour is required). My co-curator Lauren Hewes will be giving a public tour on Monday, Jan. 29 at 1 p.m. A public reception for the exhibition will be held at the Grolier Club on Tuesday, January 23 at 2:30 p.m.
