The Michigan Historical Review announces a call for graduate papers exploring themes from Michigan’s past for its 2021 Graduate Student Essay Prize. The winner will receive $1,000 and publication in the journal. Entry deadline is 1 July 2021. Papers must use original, primary source material and will be judged on style, research, originality, and proper documentation. They should be approximately 10,000 to 15,000 words in length, double-spaced, and footnoted in Chicago Style (17th edition), with the author’s name not appearing anywhere on the paper. A cover letter with the name of the author, graduate school, and graduate program must accompany. Please submit entries as Microsoft Word documents no later than July 1 to mihisrev@cmich.edu.

In press for nearly fifty years, the MHR is one of the nation's leading state history journals and reaches an international audience. Along with a print edition, current electronic articles are available via Project Muse, archived in JSTOR, and cataloged in leading databases such as EBSCO and Gale. Published twice yearly, the MHR is based in the Department of History at Central Michigan University and produced with support from the Historical Society of Michigan and the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan.
