“A NATIVE OF POLAND PROFESSING THE ARTS IN LONDON”: THE UNCONVENTIONAL JEWISH LIFE AND THOUGHT OF SOLOMON YOM TOV BENNETT (1767-1838)
Prof. Dr. em. David B. Ruderman
– University of Pennsylvania

Please confirm your attendance to the lecture before 6 May at ijs@uantwerpen.be. You will then receive the weblink.

The lecture offers a preview of the new biography that David Ruderman is currently writing on Solomon Bennett, an engraver, biblical critic, and translator who traveled across the European continent to settle in London at the beginning of the nineteenth century. Bennett was a kind of maskil but was unusual in his evolution as a Jewish thinker, being alienated from the Anglo-Jewish communal establishment yet also embedded within a literary elite of Christian intellectuals.

Online (Zoom) lecture in English.
