Today the education sector is going through what most commentators see as an unprecedented period of change. However, while the flux of recent times appears to have been enormous, many aspects of what we do remains the same or only slightly changed. Our need to publish, bring in research funding, and get positive student assessments have not gone away. The knowledge we need to impart has not become irrelevant. The questions we asked before remain unanswered. Set in this context, ‘A Focus on Pedagogy’ asks us to take a step back from the flux we have been in recently and refocus on our teaching and research in the light of recent events.
With particular focus on art and design disciplines it asks whether our studio practice remains relevant, how to foster creativity alongside critical thinking, the role of sites, settings, location and context in teaching and practice, how interdisciplinarity influences the creative fields, how does social conscious art and design play out in the educational setting, and more.
