Call for Papers/Proposals

Special Issue on Jewish American Periodicals

For a special issue on Jews, periodical literature, and Jewish periodicals, the journal Studies in American Jewish Literature invites proposals on patterns, histories, and cultures of Jewish newspapers, magazines, reviews, journals, etc., of any period. From Isaac Leeser’s Occident and American Jewish Advocate and Isaac Mayer Wise’s The American Israelite to Yiddish newspapers to Menorah Journal, Commentary, and Partisan Reviewto Tablet, The Jewish Review of Books, Jewish Currents and beyond. We are interested in analytical considerations of Jewish periodical writing in relation to Jewish literature and Jewish literary study, more broadly as organs and/or barometers of Jewish and/or US culture, and more critically as forums for the appraisal of cultural, political, and/or social trends. Highly-focused and argument-driven proposals (of up to 500 words) should be sent to guest editor Michael P. Kramer (mpkramer@gmail.com) by July 12, 2021; completed papers to be due March 28, 2022.
