Book talk by Prashant Kidambi: Cricket Country: An Indian Odyssey in the Age of Empire
Join us online at Williams College on Wednesday, 14th April 2021 from 4:15-5:30 pm EST (10:15 pm GMT) for a virtual event to hear historian Prashant Kidambi (University of Leicester) talk about his latest book, Cricket Country: An Indian Odyssey in the Age of Empire (Oxford University Press, 2019). The book — shortlisted for the prestigious 2020 Wolfson History Prize — is the story of the first Indian cricket tour to England. Through this historic tour in the blazing Coronation summer of 1911, Kidambi shows how an improbably diverse group of Indian cricketers participated in a collective enterprise that epitomizes the role played by sport in fashioning the imagined communities of both nation and empire. The event is free and open to all. More information and zoom link available here: https://history.williams.edu/announcements/cricket-country-an-indian-odyssey-in-the-age-of-empire/
