Association for Gravestone Studies Student Scholarship
The Association for Gravestone Studies requests submissions for the student scholarship award at its virtual annual conference, which will be held June 18-27, 2021. The award winner will receive conference registration and a $200 award, and will deliver his or her paper in a moderated virtual session during the conference.
Research on all aspects of the study of gravestones, cemeteries, or closely related topics is eligible: preservation issues, carver studies, marker styles and motifs, burial practices, historic surveys, individual histories, etc. In the past winners have come from art, art history, architecture, folklore, conservation, historic preservation, and other allied fields.
This conference is an opportunity to have extended conversations with conservators, cemetery managers, historians, advocates, preservationists, academics, other students, and early career professionals from around the world who practice, research, and promote gravestone studies.
Please submit the application form, a cover letter, an abstract or summary of the proposed presentation (not more than 1,000 words), a pdf of a draft PowerPoint presentation which includes the key images that will be included in the final presentation, and a (separate) reference letter from an academic adviser to AGSConfscholar@gmail.com by April 15, 2021. The proposal form and additional information is available on the AGS website at www.gravestonestudies.org/awards/scholarship.
