Your Ancestors in Context: A Summer Public History Workshop. The Stevenson University Public History Program is pleased to invite community members to a weeklong workshop focused on developing stories about the lives of their family members. Over the course of five mornings, participants will learn how to develop family histories that are more a tapestry than the spare lines of a family tree. The workshop will make use of both print and online databases as research resources to flesh out the lives and times of ancestors. The objective of the workshop is for individuals to finish the week with a skillset that allows them to develop historical sketches of their ancestors' lives within the context of regional, national, and global forces at work during the period. Facilitated by Stevenson University Public History Program faculty members Andrew Johnstone and Glenn T Johnston, meetings will take place on Aug 10-14 at Stevenson's Greenspring Valley campus at 1525 Greenspring Valley Rd, Stevenson, MD 21153 in Classroom Dawson (AC) 12. Meetings begin at 9:00 am. Cost for the 15-hr workshop is $125 payable at the door by check or cash. Inquiries can be made to Glenn Johnston at 443.334.2196.
