Communication Ethics in Urban Settings
The 16th Biennial Communication Ethics Conference will be held virtually June 8–10, 2021. The conference is sponsored by the Department of Communication & Rhetorical Studies of Duquesne University and the Communication Ethics Institute.
NOTE: The conference venue is shifting to an online format in order to accommodate the circumstances of COVID-19.
The theme for this year’s conference is Communication Ethics in Urban Settings. The conference centers on considering the implications of communication ethics for urban settings.
Keynote speakers include:
Andre Johnson on "Addressing the Chaos: Africana Communication and the Problem with Moving On"
Sue Drucker and Gary Gumpert on "Ethics and A Mediated Polis: Love Thy Neighbor?"
Jordi Pujol on "Facing the Divide Since Babel: The Contribution of Faith to Urban Settings"
Erik Garrett on "City Fences: The Phenomenology of Communication in and about
Neighborhoods"
Presenters are encouraged to develop panels and submissions on the topic of urban settings tied to communication ethics, specifically addressing the following coordinates:
Urban Communication Ethics
The Lived Environment and Human Flourishing
Communicative Practices in the City
As always, we welcome papers addressing any aspect of communication ethics, regardless of connection to the conference theme.
Papers: We invite abstracts of 200–500 words or completed papers of a maximum of 30 pages, including references. Submissions should be double-spaced, using MLA, APA, or Chicago citation styles.
Panel Proposals: Panel proposals may include up to five participants. Please include a title page with a 500-word (maximum) rationale and a 200-word abstract for each presentation.
