37th Illinois Medieval Association conference, "The Medieval Present"
Hosted online by Dominican University
Saturday, February 20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The focus of this conference is how pre-modern historical actors responded to crises they faced, including disease, economic instability, and military threats -- many of which we've also experienced in 2020/2021. What commonalities between their responses and ours may we find? Can their responses show us a path for handling our own crises? Our plenary speaker will be Dr. S. Dorsey Armstrong, Professor of English at Purdue University. Medieval scholars presenting include faculty, independent scholars, and graduate students from Illinois and beyond. Their papers discuss pedagogy, literature, modern games, and all are welcome to participate in a lunchtime workshop on using digitized sources (held by the Newberry) on crises in classrooms. And of course, "take home" free high-quality digitized sources from the Newberry for their own use. The conference is free, but donations are appreciated.
