The Australasian Journal of American Studies (AJAS) aims to publish the best submissions from around the world on all themes and all periods relating to U.S. politics, literature, history, culture, and film. We are calling for article manuscripts written by established and emerging scholars for our 2021 and 2022 issues.

Manuscripts following the conventions listed on https://anzasa.org/ajas/ can be submitted electronically to ajas.anzasa@gmail.com

All articles published in AJAS are peer reviewed. They are indexed in Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life. The journal is part of JSTOR and EBSCO, with content appearing immediately on these platforms.

AJAS awards a number of prizes for submissions: The Peter Coleman Prize ($250 AU) for the best article by a postgraduate student published in the journal over a two-year period. And the James Holt Award ($500 AU) for the best article published over the same timeframe.

In addition to articles, we welcome the submission of ideas for scholarly forums relating to new directions in the fields of American history, literature, politics, or multimedia studies.

And we would be glad to receive contributions to our “books that changed me” column—in which contributors submit approximately 1,000 words on a work relating to the U.S. that transformed their thinking or scholarly practice.
