With any luck, we will be meeting in person again at conferences in 2022. With that in mind, I am seeking 2 co-panelists, a chair, and a commentator for the American Historical Association conference to be held in New Orleans January 6-9, 2022. The panel will cohere around the intersections between gender, labor, space, and/or clothing. As part of my larger book project on the history of purses, my paper will focus on how growing numbers of women working in factories in the early 20th century U.S. viewed their "pocketbooks" as a vital private space they strategically used to navigate a masculine public world.

In the interest of creating a balanced panel, I encourage interdisciplinary and historically-oriented proposals from graduate students and junior and senior scholars. If interested, please send a paragraph (no more than 300 words) describing your proposed paper and a 1-page CV to no later than Feb 1, 2021. I will respond to all proposers after that time so we can submit a complete panel proposal by the AHA deadline of Feb 15th.

If you have a project that is not necessarily focused on gender, labor, space, and/or clothing but explores a related theme on which we might collaborate for the next Organization of American Historians or National Women's Studies Association, feel free to contact me as well. I look forward to hearing from you.
