Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at 17:00-19:00 CET
Online Discussion hosted by Centre for Southeast European Studies, University of Graz
The Year 2020 has been marked by the Covid 19 Pandemic, dominating the national agenda in many countries around the world. Greece and Turkey have been also strongly affected by the Pandemic, which added only to ongoing multiple crisis among and across the neighboring countries. Military tension, migration, earthquakes, economic problems were some of the common themes in the mainstream press both in Turkey and Greece. Yet there were also many critical issues in both countries, especially concerning marginalized groups, which rarely made national or international headlines. This panel will offer insights and critical perspectives beyond the gaze of the mainstream media and look back at the eventful year 2020 by bringing into conversation journalists from independent media outlets from Greece and Turkey. Join us for an online roundtable for a diverse retrospective on the year 2020 in Greece and Turkey.
