The annual call for the CALAS-IEAT Guest Chair Program, offered by the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) and the Institute for Advanced Transdisciplinary Studies (IEAT) of the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), is open until January 31, 2021. The program is directed by IEAT, sponsored by CALAS and comprises a three-month research stay at the IEAT, starting September, 2021.
According to the CALAS research program, candidates are expected to contribute to the development of new methodological and analytical approaches to understand processes of transformations and crises in Latin America. They may explore different problems of the present and the past, and the perspectives for the solution of such conflicts, promoting transdisciplinary research on crisis, the processes of social change that accompany it and the role of the different actors involved.
For the call 2021, the research project to be carried out must be related to the issue of social inequality, with emphasis on at least one of the following dimensions: labor, territory, culture, education or health. A further focus on ethnic/racial or gender dimensions of these inequalities and an interdisciplinary and transregional perspective is very much embraced.
The call is open to researchers with an academic background in the humanities or social sciences. A Ph.D. is required. Besides the quality of the research project, the scientific trajectory and experience in the research field will be evaluated.
