Applications for 2021-22 LAHP studentships open mid-December. The deadline for receipt of LAHP studentship applications is 29th January 2021 at 5pm.

Before applying for a LAHP studentship, candidates must have already submitted an application for PhD study at one of the LAHP partner institutions – recommended by 18 January 2021.

The IMLR invites applications for PhD study, commencing in October 2021.

Alongside the other institutes of SAS, the IMLR is home to a diverse, international and vibrant community of scholars covering major European language areas of French, German, Italian and Spanish. The IMLR brings together experienced researchers in multilingualism, migration and belonging in French-, German-, Italian- and Spanish-speaking contexts; Digital Humanities; women’s writing; post-Kantian German philosophy; and postcolonial studies. In addition, the Institute offers its own comprehensive programme of in-person and online Research and Skills Training, academic conferences, and events that attract students, early career researchers and established scholars from across the UK. Students have access to networks associated with our research centres, such as the centres for German and Austrian Exile Studies, Contemporary Women’s Writing, German Thought, Cultural Memory, and Austrian Literature and Culture. We are particularly well placed to offer supervision for projects that cross national and disciplinary boundaries. Located steps away from world renowned research resources such as the British Library, British Museum and Senate House Library, we pride ourselves on being at the centre of academic and intellectual life in London. A list of potential supervisors can be found at the following link: https://modernlanguages.sas.ac.uk/graduate-study/mphilphd.

Potential candidates should in the first instance contact an appropriate supervisor, or the Acting Director of the IMLR, Dr Godela Weiss-Sussex (godela.weiss-sussex@sas.ac.uk), by 15 December 2020.
