We seek articles on cultural representations of post/socialism as a global historical formation for a special issue of the journal Comparative Literature Studies. The term “postsocialism” was first coined in reference to 1980s innovations in Chinese-style state socialism, and the field of postsocialist studies critiques dominant narratives of transition in former Soviet Union and Eastern Bloc countries. We invite contributions on a variety of cultural productions (including media, film, and TV), and are particularly interested in scholarship on the current state or legacy of post/socialism in Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa, including transnational or comparative approaches. We also invite analyses of representations that trace how US triumphalism over the demise of state socialism has given way to more complex assessments.
