Political communication research is gradually evolving from its primary emphasis on institutional, structural, procedural, and behavioral issues, to the content of political messaging and people who encode and disseminate them. Consequently, this call is aimed at producing a well-researched and standard international volume that essentially focuses on political messaging embedded in music and entertainment across the globe, from multidisciplinary perspectives as well as a broad spectrum of methodological approaches and theoretical underpinnings.
This book project is tentatively titled, Political Messaging in Music and Entertainment Spaces across the Globe. Its multidisciplinary character opens it up to contributions by researchers from such diverse scholarly backgrounds as political science, journalism and mass communication, sociology, music, languages and linguistics, the performing arts, communication studies, law, and history.
Chapter contributions are expected to cover, but not limited to, the following broad categories:
- Music and Musicians (inclusive of music in various genres, musicians, and forms of musical performance).
- Entertainment (inclusive of television, radio and other forms of electronic/Internet shows, comedy, films, drama/theater and other forms of performance).
- Popular Culture (inclusive of all forms of political messaging that do not fall into (a) and (b) above).
Prospective contributors are welcome, and encouraged, from all regions of the world and nationalities, and should note the emphasis on political messaging, that is, the messages being communicated to audiences through music, entertainment and popular culture spaces across the globe.
Chapter proposals should be in the form of Extended Abstracts of 400-600 words (inclusive of references). In addition, prospective authors should submit their names, academic rank, institutional affiliation, a brief bio (100 words) and an e-mail address.
