Dear Principal/Head Teacher/High School Student

INVITATION FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN NIGERIA AND WEST AFRICA TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 6th  RAISING GIRLS’ AMBITION (RAGA 2020) INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

We bring you greetings from the Board of Global Youth Leadership and Girl-Child Foundation (GYLGF), Chairman of Council (Professor Jide Owoeye) and the Vice-Chancellor of Lead City University, Ibadan, Nigeria, Professor K. Adeyemo, hosts of this years RAGA 2020 Conference.

Quality education and gender equality are integral part of the 2030 agenda for the Sustainable Development, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 2015, as a distinct Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4&5) but also as a catalyst for the achievement of all other SDGs. Despite progress in areas of education and maternal mortality, the world has fallen short in bringing women’s employment, earnings and working conditions in line with those of men. Globally, the labour force participation rate for women is 50 per cent, compared to 77 per cent for men. Yet, having more women in the labour market is not enough. The quality of jobs is paramount.

Worldwide, women earn approximately 77 per cent of what men earn and continue to be primarily responsible for household chores and family responsibilities (unpaid labour). The world is better off when women find their place in decent careers and able to advance without inhibitions. The world is better off when women occupy positions of leadership and decision-making, in the boardrooms and not the “other room”. When women are economically empowered, the world becomes a better place for all (SDG 8).

Based on the aforementioned, Raising Girls’ Ambition conference was conceived by GYLGF, a non-governmental and leadership organization established since 2001 incorporated with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on August 12, 2014 and Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs, Community Development and Social Welfare. The foundation is concerned with providing evidence based and enduring solutions to the challenges faced by women, youths and the girl-child in Nigeria and globally. RAGA conference brings together, Researchers, Development Practitioners, Policy makers, Educational institutions, Students in Tertiary and Secondary Schools and other Stakeholders who have concern for the development of the girl-child.

RAGA envisions a society where girls can grow up to be educated, informed, able to make informed positive decisions for their lives and contribute meaningfully to the development of their immediate communities and society at large. We therefore use this medium to invite you/your school to participate in the competitions.

Attached is instruction for participation.
