Vernon Press invites chapter proposals for the volume: The Hamilton Phenomenon edited by Chloe Northrop (Tarrant County College).
When Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical sensation hit Broadway in 2015, scholars were unprepared for the impact this theatrical experience would produce. Miranda’s use of rap, hip-hop, jazz, and Broadway show tunes provides the basis for this epic adventure through showcasing America’s past by reinterpreting eighteenth-century history. This edited book seeks to reflect on the unique moment presented by Hamilton. We seek proposals focusing on how this show has impacted research and scholarship in light of this “phenomenon.” Particularly, The Hamilton Phenomenon seeks to uncover how this popularity has influenced research projects, conference presentations, and funding in the five years since its debut. For instance, this volume might explore the pedagogical opportunities unleashed in historical education. Additionally, proposals focusing on the unique research resulting from the interest produced from this show are welcomed. We encourage proposals on early American history, pedagogy, costume, race in theatrical performances, and the role of theatre in crafting interest in history.
The Hamilton Phenomenon will be multidisciplinary in focus. Proposals are especially welcomed from the Humanities and Social Sciences. Possible topics may include, but are not limited to:
