ICAS Book Prize (IBP) 2021 Dissertation Awards.

The International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) has become the biggest international gathering in the field of Asian studies. ICAS 12 will be held in Kyoto, Japan from 24-27 August 2021 in cooperation with Kyoto Seika University, the Consortium of 48 Kyoto Universities and the City of Kyoto.

Part and parcel of ICAS is its ICAS Book Prize 2021 which will have its ninth edition in 2021. Since its beginning in 2005 it has become the leading book prize in the field of Asian Studies. In addition to Awards and Accolades for the Best Book in Asian Studies in the two categories of Humanities and Social Sciences, Awards and Accolades for the Best Ph.D Dissertation in Asian Studies will be awarded in each category. We encourage candidates from all countries whose dissertation is in the English language to enter this competition. Award winners will receive a cash prize of €1250.

To be eligible for consideration, dissertations should be in the field of Asian studies (including Central Asia) and the disciplines of either Humanities or Social Sciences (broadly classified). They should be dated to between June 2018 and June 2020 (broadly classified).


The submission process is very simple. Any interested party, including the dissertation authors themselves, may submit an electronic copy of the thesis by following the instructions on https://www.icas.asia/icas-book-prize-2021. The deadline for submission is the 1st of October 2020.
