NeMLA's 52nd Annual Convention is slated to take place March 11 to 14, 2021, and we hope that by then we will all be able to participate in our friendly convention in beautiful Philadelphia, the "Birthplace of America," steps from Independence Hall. Circumstances permitting, important work awaits us in re-shaping the humanities for ourselves, our constituents, and our broader communities. We hope that you will consider joining us in person, or, if need be, virtually, by submitting a session proposal to our 52nd convention by May 8 here

We look forward to gathering for a convention that embraces what is most human about the humanities, and that is shaped by the generosity and gratitude of sincere, meaningful exchange.

We hope that you will use our 52nd Annual Convention theme, "Tradition and Innovation: Changing Worlds Through the Humanities," as an opportunity to deepen your critical reflection in your field. Our 2021 theme ponders not only how the humanities deal with a changing world, but how we, as humanists, can change the world. We welcome session proposals that highlight your passions, curiosities, pet projects, as well as your scholarly, social, and political commitments.

We are delighted to host, for our Thursday opening address, Professor Jed Esty, author of Unseasonable Youth: Modernism, Colonialism, and the Fiction of Development and Vartan Gregorian Professor of English at the University of Pennsylvania. Our Friday keynote event will be given by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jennifer Egan, whose novel Manhattan Beach will be the focus of "NeMLA Reads Together." Special thanks to the generous support of the University of Pennsylvania, our local host institution, and the University at Buffalo, our administrative home.

We send heartfelt wishes for your health, safety, and peace, and invite you to consider this call for proposals as an outlet for the new contexts of your work.
