The Michigan Historical Review announces a call for graduate papers exploring themes from Michigan’s past for its 2020 Graduate Student Essay Prize. The winner will receive $2,000 and publication in our journal. Entry deadline is 1 July 2020. Papers must use original, primary source material and will be judged on style, research, originality, and proper documentation. They should be approximately 10,000 to 15,000 words in length, double-spaced, and footnoted in Chicago Style, with the author’s name not appearing anywhere on the paper. A cover letter with the name of the author, graduate school, and graduate program must accompany. Please submit entries as Microsoft Word documents no later than July 1 to mihisrev@cmich.edu.

In press for nearly fifty years, the MHR is among the top state history journals in the country. In addition to print issues, articles are available electronically through JSTOR and all content is abstracted and indexed in leading scholarly databases, including EBSCO’s America: History and Life, Clarivate’s Current Contents, and De Gruyter’s International Bibliography of Periodical Literature. Published twice yearly, the MHR is based in the Department of History at Central Michigan University and produced with support from the Historical Society of Michigan and the Bentley Historical Library at the University of Michigan.
