for an Edited Anthology
Digital approaches to Literary ,linguistic and cultural Studies
With the prolific growth of digital technologies, there have been paradigm shifts in the ways in which traditional approaches to the study of Humanities in particular literary, and culture studies have been made. Though the application of computational tools has been in existence for the last 60 to 70 years, the use of digital tools in the analysis and interpretation of data in diverse fields has been overwhelming. Literary, and culture studies have been no exception to it. The emergence of digital turn and the accompanying methods and techniques have ,in the last several years, have made significant critical interventions into the field of literary , linguistic study, and cultural heritage research and resulted in different approaches which scholars have integrated into their research in the field of humanities.
In what way do digital technologies intersect with the study of humanities, in particular literary studies? How do the digital developments problematize teaching learning issues in the class room and framing curriculum designing in English and Culture studies Depts.? What critical space does digital humanities occupy in academia? How does one look at this new area of investigation- as an academic field of study or simply as a methodological tool? In what way does the digital turn in literary study impact on adopting different approaches to the study of literature? Would the application of computational tools be able to address globally or locally? Is it required to develop different digital methodologies and models for addressing challenges of literary, linguistic and culture studies based on culture, ethnicity, geography? What about the institutionalisation of digital humanities tools and practices in English literature depts.? In the Indian context, several strands of digital humanities like digital history, digital literary and linguistic studies digital archiving, documentation etc. have come to the forefront in the past few years, which have been essential in understanding changes in pedagogy, curriculum design, preservation of cultural heritage, reading and writing practices with a digital turn. The implications of these changes for research in humanities are many, and are chiefly seen in the growth of new forms and methods of enquiry.
The anthology seeks critical essays from scholars, archivists, librarians and heritage practitioners on broader methodological and empirical issues pertaining to the intersection of literary studies and Digital Humanities. We are interested in the essays which reflect critically on the integration of digital tools and techniques into the study and research of literary, linguistic and culture studies and cultural heritage and evaluates the challenges and problems such approaches present.
The following areas can be explored while submitting your proposal for the Anthology
Traditional versus Digital mode of Literary and culture study
Digital approaches to and applications in literary and linguistic studies
Mapping caste, gender, sexuality, and class in digital literary studies;
Social Media and its impact on literary and culture studies
Digital media in pedagogy and academic curricula
Digital Practices :Reading, writing and evaluation on the web
Application of Digital tools in preservation of Cultural heritage
Empirical experiences in Digital Archiving and documentation
Any other theme or idea pertaining to the Digital Humanities
Scholars, researchers, and Archivists, Librarians are invited to send an abstract (max. 250 words) of their proposed chapters and a short bio-note to before April 15, 2020.
Notification of acceptance would be communicated by April 30, 2020. Upon the acceptance of your chapter, you would be invited to submit the full chapter by July 30, 2020. Chapters would undergo a single review, and you would be notified if any probable revisions are requested.
Accepted chapters would be published in an edited volume. We are in touch with Springer and this anthology can be a part of the Springer series, Digital Culture and Humanities.
