The Midwest Association for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies and Wayne State University has extended its call for papers for the MAMEIS Annual Conference at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan on Friday, April 3, 2020. We welcome submissions from scholars based in the Midwest (broadly conceived) on this year's theme "Division and Unity in the Middle East and Islamic World." We are soliciting new research on any topic in Middle East and Islamic Studies, but especially encourage abstracts that align with our conference theme. This conference explores the twin themes of unity and division from both political and social angles. What do efforts to establish unity look like in the region today and what forms have they taken in the past? Conversely, what cultural, ideological, and other divides have threatened or complicated efforts for unity throughout the history of the Middle East and Islamic World? Please submit a one-page prospectus along with your name, title, and affiliation to
