Instruments and Intermediaries in East Asia
East Asian Languages and Civilizations Graduate Conference
April 4, 2020 at the University of Pennsylvania
The Graduate Student Research Colloquium of the Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Pennsylvania is pleased to announce its fourth annual graduate student conference: Instruments and Intermediaries in East Asia. This one-day conference seeks to explore instruments and intermediaries within society, both material and conceptual, in areas such as literature and performance, politics and economy, science and technology, language and culture, thought and religion, gender and family, etc.
We welcome participants from all disciplines to consider their research on East Asia, broadly conceived, from the perspective of processes, relationships, and the in-between.
· Individual papers: 20-minute presentations; 250-word abstract
· Panels: three 20-minute or four 15-minute papers; 350-word panel abstract as well as a brief abstract for each individual paper on the panel
Please submit application materials along with a short biography of 100 words or less to firstname.lastname@example.org. Application deadline: JANUARY 24, 2020 by 11:59 p.m.
Accepted presenters will be notified by February 14, 2020. Completed papers based on the submitted abstract will be due March 13, 2020 by 11:59 p.m. *Early submission highly recommended.
Limited funding is available for conference participants. Please indicate your need at the time of application and include both the location from which you will be traveling and whether you require lodging.
