 Call for Fellowship Applications

The Wilson Special Collections Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Libraries is now accepting applications for four funding opportunities for researchers who wish to use the rich and deep resources available in the UNC-Chapel Hill’s special collections.

The first two fellowship categories support work on the American South, one of the major strengths of the special collections at Wilson Library. We are pleased to offer an award dedicated to the innovative use of audiovisual materials for research and artistic endeavors and an expanding fellowship program that supports research in our renowned Rare Book Collection.

Complete applications for all fellowships are due by midnight January 31st.

Southern Studies Doctoral Fellowships

Doctoral students and candidates studying the American South are encouraged to apply for the Southern Studies Doctoral Fellowships. Two types of award are available: 1) an exploratory one-month Pre-Dissertation Prospectus Fellowship, and 2) a one to three-month Dissertation Research Fellowship

Further details about these fellowships, applicant eligibility, and the application process can be found on our Southern Studies Doctoral Fellowships page.

Summer Visiting Research Fellowships

Advanced graduate students, faculty, independent scholars, and established performing and creative artists can apply for two-week summer research fellowships that support intensive, innovative, and impactful research and artistic use of its collections. These awards support research focused on North Carolina and the American South

Further details about these fellowships, applicant eligibility, and the application process can be found on our Summer Visiting Research Fellowships page.

Audiovisual Research Fellowship

Advanced graduate students, faculty, independent scholars, and established performing and creative artists are encouraged to apply for a fellowship that supports in-depth research and artistic use of Wilson Library’s audiovisual holdings. Sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this award supports research residencies of at least two weeks.

Further details about this fellowship, applicant eligibility, and the application process can be found on our Audiovisual Research Fellowship page.

Rare Book Collection Fellowships

The Hanes Graduate Fellowships supports graduate students enrolled at UNC-Chapel Hill whose research requires direct and sustained use of Rare Book Collection materials.

The Bond Fellowship invites applications from the broader research community of advanced graduate students, faculty, and independent scholars. These awards will support research residencies of between one and three months.

Further details about these fellowships, applicant eligibility, and the application process can be found on our Rare Book Collection Fellowships page.
