The portraits of the Portuguese queens or the Spanish queens represented the subtleties of their state through their clothing, jewelry, etc ... as well as broader motios related to the representation of specific circumstances such as the ceremonial of each court. Consequently, the queens of the different dynasties were represented in a correlatively different way. A comparative diachronic study allows us to observe the evolution of invariants and variations of the representation, which provides significant materials for the systematic understanding of the cultural historical meaning and value of the real Iberian portrait in the more general framework of the study of forms of western reprsenttion. Within the MOSTRA ESPANHA 2019 Program and in collaboration with the National Museum of Antiga Art, a Spanish-Spanish art history symposium is presented under the scientific committee formed by Annemarie Jordan and Mercedes LLorente, based on different studies on the portraits of the Spanish and Portuguese queens discuss and analyze the construction and evolution of the royal representation of the sixteenth century to the first half of the seventeenth century through the participation of experts in the field.
