African Notes welcomes submissions from a wide range of disciplines with as wide methodological orientations for its regular issues. It also welcomes special editions from interested guest editors from around the world. The blind review process of submissions takes between 2 and 3 months. Ultimately, the journal publishes articles that reflect best practices in the field of African Studies and at the same time engage in conversation with contemporary scholarly issues around the world. Although submissions are made round the year and considered on a rolling basis, specific issues are allocated deadlines, which also apply to special editions. For Volume 42, Numbers 1& 2, the deadline for submission of articles and reviews is 15th January, 2018.

Established in 1964, African Notes is one of the oldest surviving journals in Africa. Hosted by the Institute of African Studies of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, the journal which took off in the independence decade as an outlet for the publication of research findings of the Institute's researchers would extend its mandate shortly thereafter to include the publication of cutting edge research submitted from around the world on Africa and its Diaspora. The journal enjoys a place of pride as having published articles by outstanding African and Africanist scholars from the 1960s to the present. Some of the scholars include Tekena Tamuno, J.P Clark, Ayo Bamgbose, Wale Ogunyemi, Mabel Segun, Robin Law and Rosalind Hackett.  Now in its 39th volume and published twice a year, the journal right from inception has enjoyed and continues to sustain a wide range of circulation around the world among academics, institutions and other similar centres, including Stanford University, University of Birmingham, Cornell University, University of British Columbia, among others. Generally, the journal is interdisciplinary in approach and is oriented towards publishing cutting edge research on Africa--from Cape to Cairo. It is also committed to publishing comparative research on Africa and its far-flung Diasporas as a way of staying true to the imperative of sustaining the link between continental Africa and its many Diasporas-- both old and new. Although reputable for privileging research in the Humanities and the Social Sciences, the journal's interfacing value in relation to other disciplines also encourages submissions from other fields of enquiries like the Physical and Biological Sciences, Engineering, Technology and Medicine. It is, for that matter, alive to the imperative of development on the continent and the necessity of facilitating interdisciplinary exchanges and collaboration in this respect.

The deadline for Volume 42, Numbers 1 & 2 is 15th January, 2018.  For queries and submissions of articles and reviews, contact the Editor at africannotes@gmail.com; phone: +234 705 661 5698. While articles should be between 6000 and 8000 words, a review should not exceed 1500 words.
