The conference on Status and Justice in Law, Religion, and Society will take place at Washington and Lee University on  1–3 November 2019  to undertake a broad analysis of the status of persons in state law and in religious law, approached cross-culturally and across history.

The conference website is at  It presents the conference theme in more detail, with links to the full schedule of events, the two keynote lectures by Clifford Ando (U. Chicago) and Winnifred Fallers Sullivan (Indiana U.), and the abstracts of the paper presentations. The two keynote lectures are public and open to the public.  To attend other sessions, contact our administrator, Kerri Ritter ( know which papers they plan to attend so that we can keep an eye on room capacity.
