The American Literature Area of the Popular Culture Association invites submissions for our National Conference, to be held April 15-18, 2020 at the Downtown Marriott in Philadelphia, PA. The deadline for proposals is rapidly approaching: November 1, 2019 is the last day to submit an abstract.

The area seeks to represent the diversity of American literature and literary studies, and as such accepts presentations about works in any genre(s) of American literature, from the colonial era to the twenty-first century. We welcome a range of critical approaches: For instance, papers may consider literary representations, explore historical implications, offer theoretical readings, examine thematic parallels, or adopt other interpretive paradigms. We also encourage proposals that explore intersections of American literature and popular culture—such as film, music, television, theater, visual arts, and fashion—and those that offer treatments of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and national and individual identity in American literature.

Please submit an abstract of 200-250 words through the PCA submission database at https://conference.pcaaca.org/. Decisions pertaining to the status of proposals will be communicated within two weeks of receipt. To learn more about the organization, visit http://pcaaca.org.
